IN THIS POST: Readers come in all shapes, styles, and sizes. But it doesn’t take long on Bookstagram to realize we readers have some definite opinions – and we’re all over the place. Take this fun quiz to find out which group is your style – but know that bookish types, at least those that I’ve met – welcome all bookish types.
About the Quiz
I started jotting down distinctions among reader friends and family as I started to notice my own bookish type changing. People who I admire and respect have different ideas and habits around book-reading, book-borrowing, book-marking, and the like. And we can still exist together despite these differences – imagine!
So, I considered my own reading journey. I’ve referred to it before as reading maturity, but no one wants to be known as an immature reader so it’s an unhelpful categorization. What I did like was all the different bookish terms that readers use.
I won’t claim this as the definitive guide to what each title means, but if you’re up for some fun, take this short quiz to see what your bookish type is. Do you agree?
Full Disclosure: this assumes that you have some interest in reading. There isn’t an option for “not a reader.” I’ll trust you to self-identify on this point 😊

The Quiz for Bookish Types
Answer each question with the answer that corresponds most closely to your personal perspective and practice. Are you a Bookworm, Booknerd, or Bibliophile?
Quiz Answers: 3 Bookish Types
Here are the descriptions – do you agree?
I developed these as I sensed a change myself between Booknerd and Bibliophile. I couldn’t decide where I’d land so I was the first one to take the quiz and test my answers.
Bookworm – You consume books in any and all formats – audio, digital, scroll, hardback, or the back of envelopes. You love books through and through – and it shows! Stories are your sustenance. Find a comfy spot in any location and you’re good to go.
Booknerd – Somewhere between a bookworm and a bibliophile, your standards are specific to you – sometimes fussy and sometimes relaxed. Books should be handled with care, but stories are meant to be shared.
Bibliophile – You value both the story and the medium through which it is told. You curate collections to your taste. Your library is impeccable in content and quality.
As it turns out, I am a Booknerd! And that rings true. I’m moving slowly towards collecting books in certain formats and editions, but that’s about as close to bibliophilia as I’m getting. My library is divided by fiction and non-fiction and that’s about it. Sometimes fussy and sometimes not is a solid description for me.
What was your result? Do you agree – why or why not?
